About Yungpo Bernard Su MD, FACP

I am a board certified medical oncologist, with subspecialty expertise in the treatment of Head & Neck cancers as well as GI cancers. I am also board certified in Hospice & Palliative Medicine. My family has been deeply affected by cancer.  I serve as the Medical Oncology faculty for the Methodist Estabrook Cancer Center Head & Neck Surgical Oncology Fellowship Program and am a guest lecturer at Creighton University School of Medicine.

I am married to author Lydia Kang, and we have three children and two dogs, Piper and Sawyer. In my spare time, I am learning how to repair vintage watches, I bake sourdough bread, and play tennis.


I am committed to clinical research, with a special interest in targeted therapies, such as immune checkpoint inhibitor immunotherapies for patients with Head & Neck cancers. I am also committed to medical education as well.

    The preregistration was too long and at the end it kicked me out. I was very upset. Luckily receptionist was able to retrieve some of my information

    Street construction made it difficult to navigate to the right place on the hospital campus. Might want to warn patients from out of town.

    We could not be more happy with Todd’s care team. We truly feel like we are one big family. We thank God everyday that he gave us Dr. Su, Mary Beth, and all of the team of nurses that have kept us going the past year and half. We have a long way to go and many prayers to send up. But we are so blessed with the best care and have you all to thank for that.

    There was confusion over my blood draw. The scheduler and sent me to the other lab. I got there and was told they didn't have any orders for me, so I returned to the scheduler for Dr. Su. Another scheduler helped explain to her why I was getting my blood drawn at the other lab instead. But everyone was nice and professional.

    The online preregistration process did not work for me. I tried twice on my cell phone. Gave up.

    This is the best hospital we have ever visited. Everyone we dealt with was fabulous!! The Dr. and the team of nurses and all the staff made us feel so comfortable. We are so happy that we were referred to Bergan Mercy!! The only problem that we had was finding where we were supposed to be going. We used google maps to find the hospital. I would put in the address that we needed to go to, the name of the building, all the information I could think of and both times we came to Bergan, we were directed to the back of a hospital building on Pacific. The first time we were there, we parked a long distance from the Procedure Center where we were going. We asked a nurse that was coming in for work if she could tell us how to get there. She said she could not tell us how to get there, she was going to walk us there!!! One more thing....I received a Thank You card from the staff in the GI unit thanking me for letting them take care of me!!! Hand signed by all the girls!!

    Dr Panwar and Dr Su are excellent. Their staff members are first class. The facilities are busy in a good way. Everyone is paying attention, they seem like they are enjoying what they do. This is important to me as a patient because caring is a verb. It is something one can feel is happening to them. Being cared for. Today marked by 2 year checkup after diagnosis. Thank you to everyone at NCS for what you did for me.

    Dr. Su is wonderful. I wish all doctors had his kindness, compassion, and patience in discussing health concerns with their patients. He talks with his patients in a manner that is evident that he truly cares about them, as people, not just a patient. As someone who suffers from anxiety, he immediately sets me at ease. Dr. Su always makes sure to answer EVERY question- no matter what. It is clear he cares enough to make sure there is no confusion in what the results revealed and what our next steps will be. As I stated, I have anxiety and I come with a lot of questions, but he never makes me feel as if any of them are silly or not important. Dr. Su is the model of what all doctors should be. He deserves the highest praise.

    Dr Shu helped me understand why I was being followed up at Medical Oncology. Explained the situation and was able to ask questions I was concerned about. Felt so much better after my appointment.
