About Margaret Block MD, FACP
I was born and raised in Queens, NY. After completing medical school at Albany Medical College in upstate New York, I completed a residency and fellowship at Rush-Presbyterian/St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago, as well as an additional fellowship at the University of Wisconsin, Clinical Cancer Center in Madison, WI.
I have served as a principal investigator for several cancer studies and participate strongly and actively in many research studies to offer exceptional, innovative care for my patients. I am actively involved in charitable organizations surrounding cancer research, as well as professional medical organizations including the American Medical Association (AMA) and the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO).
In my spare time, I can be found pursuing my passion for photography, enjoying the outdoors, spending quality time with my family and pets, and supporting local charitable organizations including the Nature Conservancy and the Joslyn Art Museum.

- Being told you have cancer is a major shock to the system. First you have to question what you thought you heard.....oh you said cancer and then your mind goes blank. You can't think of a single question and if you did would you understand the answer? The whole team starting with the staff setting your appointment, the nurses, lab techs and my doctor, Dr. Block. I had confidence in the treatment because of the confidence I had to each and every team member I had contact with. Their knowledge of the drugs, how they may effect me. They walked with me through the treatments. I could go on, but most of all was the support and confidence. I felt safe even though I knew there were no guarantees.

Which then causes issues with my care, and makes existing problems worse. However, todays visit was great with Rachel! My trunk/arm/nerve pain/lymphedema was vastly improved after her treatment.

The computer registration seemed very lengthy and cumbersome for someone who was raised using typewriters! That could have been streamlined.

I had already left, but she called my phone and left a message. I was worried that that I would have to come back to the cancer center to get it accessed. She took such a weight off my shoulders. She went out of her way to help me!!!

- The new online check-in has issues. Two days prior to my appointment, I checked in online and the day of my appointment I checked in at the counter to let them know that I had arrived and then I sat down in the waiting area. Twenty minutes later, I received a call from one of the nurses asking me if I had arrived and if I was in the lobby. I said that I had checked in 20 minutes earlier and was in the waiting area. She said something about not receiving a "yellow paper" and within a couple of minutes my name was called. The nurse that took my vitals apologized about the wait and told me that this had happened to other patients as well and this was a new system.

- I really like the Legacy facility! I’ve went to Estabrook for 16 years with my Dr. Block. Her move here brought me here. Back during my chemo we did visit here as our favorite oncology nurse, Wendy had transferred here. I love the idea of tablets provided! Tablets weren’t around 16 years ago! Very great facility!
- Dr. Geetha was great! She listened and she explained. I appreciated her style and her experience. I felt comfortable asking questions. Staff didn't take me for labs first, so I did them after my visit with Dr. Geetha... I do not know those results yet.
- I did the on line check in. It would be most helpful if a person is told photos front and back of all insurance cards and photo ID would be needed to complete this check in.

- Whenever I have an appointment I am always asked how I am doing with follow-up questions. Everyone seems to really care about me and how I am doing. I always feel at home.
