Insurance and Financial Services for NCS Patients

We understand the financial burden cancer care can have on patients and their families. That’s why each patient at NCS has a designated patient financial advocate that works one-on-one throughout their course of care to:

  • Review insurance benefits
  • Discuss available payment plans
  • Introduce foundations offering assistance
  • Research co-pay cards for medications and equipment
  • Answer questions regarding billing
  • Review Claims

Patients will meet with a patient financial advocate prior to receiving their first treatment and at any time questions arise regarding statements and coverage. The patient financial advocate can also discuss patient assistance programs that provide various types of support and may be able to assist with co-pays and living expenses.

What if I lose my insurance or my insurance changes?

Please notify the NCS Patient Financial Services Department right away if you lose or change your insurance by calling 402.537.5600.  Some insurance companies have different requirements for authorizations and in order to ensure you receive the maximum benefit we will need to contact your insurance carrier right away. If you lose your insurance or are at risk for losing your insurance, we may be able to help by contacting foundations and patient assistance companies as well.

What if I have a cancer policy?

NCS is happy to provide you with the necessary documents you will need to file under your cancer policy. Please ask one of our Patient Financial Advocates when you are in the office or call the Patient Financial Services Department and we can help get you started.

How do I pay my bill?

You have three options:
Pay online through the NCS website

Pay by phone: 402-537-5600

Pay by mail: Mail your payment along with the bottom portion of your statement in the enclosed envelope

How do I request an itemized statement?

You may request an itemized statement by calling our Patient Financial Services department at 402-537-5608.

What are your business hours?

Our Patient Financial Services representatives are available Monday – Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Why does my statement show the name of a doctor I didn’t see?

If you came in for treatment only and your regular doctor was not in the office, we sometimes bill the treatment charges under the doctor who was supervising the clinic that day.

Will all services be covered by my insurance?

Your insurance policy defines the benefits of coverage you are entitled to under your policy. While each plan is different your plan may cover all or some of the cost of your treatment or services, less any deductible, and co-insurance amounts which are your responsibility. Your plan may not cover certain drugs, routine labs, or other services they deem as a non-covered benefit. If you have any questions, please contact your insurance company.

What is a deductible?

It’s the amount the covered person must pay each calendar year for covered services before benefits are payable by the insurance company.

What is a copayment?

It’s a fixed dollar amount that your insurance company requires that you pay at the time the services are provided. Co-pays often are applied to office visits, but can be applied differently depending on your insurance.

What is coinsurance?

It’s the percentage amount—determined by an insurance company—that a covered person must pay for covered services.

What is an EOB (Explanation of Benefits)?

This is the paper that is mailed to you and also to us that helps explain how your claim was paid. It will tell us if you have deductible to pay, if there is a co-insurance amount due, or what your responsibility will be. You should get a copy of the same thing that is mailed to us

Why do you ask for a copy of my insurance card each time I come in?

Sometimes insurance companies change addresses. Other times the in-network claims processor changes but not the actual insurance company. It is important for our patient financial services department to ensure that claims are sent to the right place.
