It is very important for you to manage your sugar intake prior to your exam.
48 HOURS prior to Pet Scan no strenuous exercise, including Physical Therapy, lawn mowing or shoveling snow, should be done.
No gum chewing, and limit caffeine to (1) serving for 48hrs prior to PET scan.
Avoid cold temperatures and stay warm for forty-eight (48) hours prior to your appointment.
Please drink plenty of water the two (2) days prior to your appointment.
48-72 HOURS Prior to PET Scan follow a low carbohydrate diet. If your blood sugar has been over 150 for the last three (3) days, follow these instructions for seventy-two (72) to ninety-six (96) hours.
Do Not Eat: Anything sugar sweetened, fruit or juice, bread, cereal, rice noodles, potatoes, corn, alcohol, or milk.
Food Allowed: All meats, chicken, fish, tofu, eggs, cheese, oil, butter, margarine, nuts, and non-starchy vegetables.
If your fasting blood sugar is over 200 within the last three to five days, please contact the PET nurse at 402-334-4773, to discuss your options.
If you are on an insulin pump, continue with the pump set at basal rate and consume water only four (4) hours prior to exam.
No injectable insulin should be taken after midnight before your exam.
Only water is allowed before your PET Scan
You may take your medicine with water the morning of your test. Please hydrate this am.
