Screening, Support, and Showing Up for Your Skin

May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month, and this year, we kicked it off with purpose—and partnership. On May 3rd, Nebraska Cancer Specialists, in collaboration with the NCS Hope Foundation and our friends at Think Whole Person Healthcare, hosted a free skin cancer screening event that brought the community together for something powerful: prevention with purpose.

The turnout? Incredible. Dozens of individuals came through the doors for a quick, potentially life-saving check. No cost, no hassle—just experts coming together to catch skin changes early and talk about what to watch for. These are the moments that remind us how important proactive care really is.

Why does skin cancer awareness matter? Because it’s the most common cancer in the U.S.—but also one of the most preventable. Whether it’s wearing sunscreen daily (even when it’s cloudy!), checking your skin regularly, or seeing a specialist when something doesn’t look quite right, small steps make a big difference.

And when it comes to care, NCS is proud to be here for every step—whether you need a biopsy, treatment, or just a second opinion. Early detection saves lives, and this month, we’re shining a spotlight on exactly that.

To everyone who attended the screening event: thank you for showing up for your health. And to those who missed it? It’s never too late to make that appointment, ask that question, or start that conversation.

Because when we prioritize prevention, we protect what matters most. Your skin. Your health. Your future.
