The future of radiation therapy is here. How advanced technology is improving cancer care in Nebraska

When you’re facing a cancer diagnosis, every decision matters. From choosing your physician to selecting where you’ll receive treatment, patients deserve confidence that they’re receiving the most advanced care available.

At Nebraska Cancer Specialists (NCS), we’re committed to investing in advanced technology that helps us deliver more precise, personalized cancer care. That’s why we’re proud to be the only cancer center in Nebraska offering Varian HyperSight™ imaging. We also utilize Vision RT® Surface Guided Radiation Therapy (SGRT), the market leader in surface-guided radiation technology, to further enhance treatment accuracy and patient safety. Together, these innovative technologies help make radiation treatments more precise, more comfortable, and better tailored to each patient’s unique needs..

Why Precision Matters in Radiation Therapy

Radiation therapy works by delivering high-energy radiation directly to cancer cells while minimizing exposure to nearby healthy tissue. The more accurately radiation can be delivered, the better physicians can protect healthy organs and reduce the risk of side effects.

Today’s technology allows radiation oncology teams to see more, track more, and adapt more than ever before.

What Is HyperSight?

HyperSight is one of the newest advances in image-guided radiation therapy.

Traditional imaging helps physicians verify a patient’s position before treatment begins. HyperSight takes this to the next level by producing exceptionally high-quality 3D images in seconds, allowing the care team to clearly visualize tumors and surrounding anatomy immediately before treatment. This enhanced imaging provides greater confidence that radiation is being delivered exactly where it’s intended.

For patients, that means:

  • Greater treatment precision
  • Improved visualization of tumors and surrounding organs
  • Increased confidence that each treatment is accurately targeted
  • The potential for more personalized treatment decisions throughout therapy

What Is Vision RT Surface Guided Radiation Therapy?

While HyperSight provides detailed imaging inside the body, Vision RT adds another layer of precision by monitoring the outside of the body throughout treatment.

Using advanced 3D camera technology, Vision RT continuously tracks a patient’s surface in real time—without additional radiation exposure. If a patient moves beyond a very small tolerance during treatment, the system can automatically pause the radiation beam until they are correctly positioned again.

This technology offers several important benefits:

  • Increased treatment accuracy
  • Continuous monitoring during every treatment
  • Additional protection for surrounding healthy tissue
  • Greater confidence for both patients and physicians

For many patients, Surface Guided Radiation Therapy also reduces or eliminates the need for permanent alignment tattoos that have traditionally been part of radiation treatment planning.

Better Technology. Better Patient Experience.

Advanced technology isn’t just about sophisticated equipment—it’s about improving the patient experience.

With HyperSight and Vision RT working together, many patients benefit from:

  • Faster treatment setup
  • Greater comfort during treatment
  • Less time on the treatment table
  • More confidence that each treatment is delivered exactly as planned
  • Technology designed to adapt to even the smallest patient movements

These innovations allow our radiation oncology team to focus on what matters most: delivering highly personalized care while helping patients maintain the best possible quality of life throughout treatment.
