Hometown Heroes

What Does “Hometown Hero” Mean To You?

Someone who has an unconditional desire to lend a helping hand to those around them? Someone who keeps an eye out for others and takes care of their community? Allow us to introduce you to four of our favorite hometown heroes, all of which embody those same characteristics.

Your hometown heroes in Central Nebraska include Dr. Ryan Ramaekers, Dr. Sarah Creamer, Dr. David Crockett, and Dr. Pornchai Jonglertham (Dr. PJ).

About Dr. Ramaekers:

Dr. Ryan Ramaekers is originally from Fairfield, a small central Nebraska town. With deep ties to his hometown, after he graduated from Sandy Creek his mission was to become a physician serving rural Nebraska communities.

After undergrad at Nebraska Wesleyan University, Dr. Ramaekers attended the University of Nebraska Medical Center for medical school, his internal medicine residency, and his medical oncology/hematology fellowship.

Dr. Ryan Ramaekers has always been drawn to oncology because of the relationships he develops with his patients. He enjoys caring for the entire spectrum of a patient’s needs, focusing on their physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health. His commitment to each patient is to treat them with the same compassion and respect he would give a friend or family member and empower them to be an active decision maker in their cancer journey.

Dr. Ramaekers and his wife have six children, three boys and three girls, a Goldendoodle named Buddy, and love the outdoors. Dr. Ramaekers can be found fishing, woodworking, playing basketball, and traveling in his spare time. The Ramaekers family has a goal of visiting all 63 National Parks!

Dr. Sarah Creamer feels right at home in central Nebraska after being raised in rural South Dakota. With a family history of cancer, she knows the importance of excellent, compassionate care on the cancer journey. She prides herself in educating her patients during consultation which allows them to join her in the decision making process.

While training at the Texas Medical Center in Houston, TX, Dr. Creamer gravitated toward research in breast oncology. This passion has held true into practice as well where she has developed a large cohort of breast cancer patients. Did you know she is the only female medical oncologist in Grand Island?

Outside of the clinic Dr. Creamer is a mom to two busy boys and the wife of a central Nebraska hospital chaplain. She is a classically-trained pianist and vocalist, so we’re sure her sons enjoy her lullaby’s!
