What to Eat During Treatment

Food fuels healing. But when you’re going through cancer treatment, eating can become complicated. Nausea, taste changes, and fatigue may dull your appetite, but the right foods can help you feel stronger and more in control.

Here’s a simple guide to eating well during treatment:

Focus on Whole, Nutrient-Rich Foods

Choose foods packed with protein, vitamins, and antioxidants:

  • Lean proteins: chicken, eggs, tofu

  • Colorful veggies: spinach, carrots, broccoli

  • Healthy fats: avocado, olive oil, nuts

  • Whole grains: oatmeal, quinoa, brown rice

Small Meals, Often
If your appetite is low, eat small portions every 2–3 hours. Smoothies, soups, and soft foods are often easier to tolerate.

Stay Hydrated
Water, broth, herbal teas, and ice chips all count. Avoid sugary or carbonated drinks if they cause bloating or discomfort.

Manage Side Effects with Food

  • For nausea: ginger, crackers, lemon water

  • For constipation: fiber-rich foods, prunes

  • For taste changes: marinate meats, try tart fruits
