Movement for Longevity

Thank you for your interest in Movement for Longevity!  These classes focus on low-impact, slow, gentle movements.  They are intended for individuals at all stages of life, regardless of fitness level.  Below is a list of class offerings. Our next session will begin in January.  If you’re interested in a particular class, sign up to be contacted when registration begins.

Yoga: Full-body relaxation and balance are the goals of this class by joining breathing, stretching, and posture.

This class is designed to promote strength and flexibility in the body. You can expect an emphasis on simplicity, repetition and ease of movement. We have yoga mats, but if you are more comfortable with yours, please feel free to bring it!

Strength Training: A class designed for you! This low-impact strength training class combines movement and resistance for maximum results.

This class will target muscle-building, balance and core strength by utilizing resistance bands, Pilates balls, and your own body weight.

Chair Yoga/Tai Chi: Experience the many benefits of yoga with the assistance of a chair.  This class is designed to increase balance, strength, flexibility, range of motion, and reduce stress through posture and breathing exercises while incorporating Tai Chi.

It is performed in a slow, rhythmic, continuous motion which relaxes the body and helps promote blood circulation. You will notice strengthened muscles and joints while developing concentration and awareness, relieving pain, fatigue, tension and stress.

Stretching and Flexibility: The act of stretching is becoming more and more important.  As we age, muscles become shorter and can lose their elasticity.  In this class, participants will lessen tightness and focus on flexibility in order to remain active and independent.

Meditation and Movement/Asana:  Is a way to relax, increase awareness, and reduce stress.  Both are designed to promote a healthy response throughout the mind, body, and spirit.

Meditation is a conscious decision to focus on one’s intentions. Body and mind in a relaxed state/form, while being mentally aware yet allowing the subconscious to be open to thoughts, feelings, and surrounding energies.

The difference between mediation and relaxation is the intention.  One can be relaxed and meditate at the same time or meditation can result in relaxation.  Movement/Asana helps the body to relax and be prepared to meditate.
